    HDR maps clamping/dynamic range?

     Hi,

I always compare stuff to the 3dsmax equivalent, since I use mainly max. The max hdr bitmap loader got controls that allow the user to decide the maximum dynamic range to load. Also, to have a real hdr I got to boost the rgb level - usually as much as the maximum leveI decided while loading the hdr. Is this all automated in rhino?

     Hi Zemmuonne,

I apologize for the long wait on this reply... I think the post got overlooked. I use HDRI a lot to light my scenes in Brazil for Rhino. To my knowledge the entire dynamic range is imported and the multiplier value is the main control for the intensity. I have also asked for further clarification from Andy LeBihan who may know exactly how we are importing these files.

When you mention "boosting the RGB level", do mean the saturation level? This is available in the output adjustment section for the HDR after loaded into a GI environment. There is also control there for clamping the range.

    Hi Brian,

rgb level in max is used to decide how much of the hdr image level is used - the strength of the hdr image, in other words.

The multiplier for the HDR in Brazil for Rhino is multiplying each of the RGB channels equally. Thanks for the HDR tutorial links as well. bj
